If you were a registered nurse and would like to re-register to engage in the workforce again to work as a registered/enrolled nurse,then the Wesley Institute course is for you.
A letter from Nursing Council approving your application for NZ registration and your enrolment into the CAP course.
An English Language assessment is required by the Nursing Council of New Zealand for all overseas trained nurses (except Australia). This must be completed prior to enrolment in our course, and can be either IELTS or OET.
The pass rates must be:
- IELTS: 7 in Reading, Speaking, & Listening, and 6.5 in Writing
- OET: 350 in Reading, Speaking, & Listening, and 300 in Writing
Combined OET results may be considered, within 12 months apart.
Any cost incurred for this assessment must be met by the candidate.
Course Fees Include:
- Course Fees: $8,900.00
- Administration Fee: $ 345.00 (non refundable)
Total: NZ $ 9,245.00 (GST included)
You are also expected to have indemnity insurance cover before commencing nursing practice experience as a student. NZ Nurses Organisation (NZNO) has student membership available. Refer to their fees here: NZNO member fees. This is compulsory and must be paid online prior to the start of CAP.
Uniform
- White short-sleeved shirts, blouses, polo shirts, scrub tops with no logos.
- Black or dark blue trousers (not jeans)
- Brown or black rubber-soled shoes with flat heels (toes covered)
- Hair tied back (if shoulder length or longer)
- Professional make-up, jewellery, personal hygiene, and grooming
- Wesley Institute CAP Nurse name badge must be always visible.
The Wesley Institute of Nursing CAP Course runs across three main regions:
- Northern
- Central
- Southern
Theory classes are held on campuses in the main centres of each region:
- Auckland
- Wellington
- Christchurch
Theory week covers the first six days of the programme (Friday – Friday) and requires compulsory attendance in person.
Following theory week, classes are held in person every Wednesday. Students who are placed outside of our main centres will attend theory classes online.
The CAP clinical placement starts in the second week of the programme.
Wesley Institute has Nursing Council-approved placements in facilities throughout New Zealand; the regions you will be sent for clinical placements are listed below.
- Northern Region (Auckland, Waikato, Tauranga, Tokoroa, Whangarei, Dargaville, Rotorua, Taupō )
- Central Region (Napier, Hastings, Gisborne, Wellington, Whanganui, New Plymouth)
- Southern Region (Christchurch, Nelson, Blenheim)
Clinical placements run for 5 weeks totalling 160 hours of clinical shifts.
Most of the clinical placements are in approved Oceania Healthcare facilities in New Zealand both on the North Island and South Island.
Please note that placements in all regions are limited, so there is no ability to choose where you want to go. We must place you where there are vacancies in practice and accounting for the availability of NZRN preceptors.
