Description

Nurses will conduct assessments on site including written assignments, assessing their skill at assessment, care planning, pathophysiology, reflective practice, along with leadership skills, managing a team, and key clinical skills.

Entry Requirements

A letter from Nursing Council approving your application for NZ registration and your enrolment into the CAP course.

An English Language assessment is required by the Nursing Council of New Zealand for all overseas trained nurses (except Australia). This must be completed prior to enrolment in our course, which can be either IELTS or OET.

The pass rates must be:

  • IELTS: 7 in Reading, Speaking, & Listening, and 6.5 in Writing 
  • OET: 350 in Reading, Speaking, & Listening, and 300 in Writing


Combined OET results may be considered, within 12 months apart.

Any cost incurred for this assessment must be met by the candidate.

Fees

Total cost break down: 

  • Course Fees: $8,900.00
  • Administration fee: $ 345.00 

Total: NZ $ 9,245.00 (GST included) 

You are also expected to have indemnity insurance cover before commencing nursing practice experience as a student. NZ Nurses Organisation (NZNO) has student membership available. Refer to their fees here: NZNO member fees. This is compulsary and must be paid online prior to the start of CAP. 

Placements

The CAP clinical placement starts in the second week of the program.  

Location for placement is usually indicated at the time of enrolment into the Wesley

CAP course and will be confirmed during your first week of CAP block course workshops. 

5 weeks of clinical placements which cover a total of 160 hours of clinical shifts which equal to about 20 rostered shifts. Most of the clinical placements are in approved Oceania Healthcare facilities in New Zealand both on the North Island and South Island. 

Please note that placements in all regions are limited, so there is no ability to choose where you want to go. We must place you where there are vacancies in practice and availability of NZRN preceptors.

Training Centres

Wesley Institute offers six Competency Assessment Programmes (CAP) annually. All clinical placements are New Zealand Nursing Council approved healthcare facilities located in both the North and South Islands of New Zealand (NZ).

We have three main training venues for CAP where theory week in week one is completed and subsequent theory class , is in Auckland (North Island).

Following the completion of theory week, starting week two and for the remainder of the programme, CAP nurses will then complete their assigned clinical placements in locations throughout NZ.

IMPORTANT: Clinical placement locations identified in the CAP enrolment offer letter are an indication only, definite locations and facilities will only be confirmed with the CAP in week one of the programme.

Uniform

  • White short-sleeved shirts, blouses, polo shirts, scrub tops with no logos.
  • Black or dark blue trousers (not jeans)
  • Brown or black rubber-soled shoes with flat heels (toes covered)
  • Hair tied back (if shoulder length or longer) 
  • Professional make-up, jewellery, personal hygiene, and grooming
  • Wesley Institute CAP Nurse name badge must be always visible.
